Job Specification

. Release management is based on project management and includes such things as requirements management and configuration management as well as IT architecture, quality control and software quality assurance. It involves the creation and verification of the finished product or service as it is to be delivered to the end user. Release Management is an important part of the system and software development process and incorporates ‘Major releases'(i.e. new features and enhancements),'Minor releases' (including  enhancements and defect repairs) and  ‘Patch releases ‘ (including critical and major defect repairs)

To manage operationally the services for ITIL service transition in respect of the Release Management process and procedures for enterprise software applications and systems infrastructure in use. The role of the Release Manager is a challenging role which requires flexibility and team work. The successful candidate will work with the Application Support Manager as well as with Development and Service Delivery Project Management teams to ensure that any conflicts that arise are resolved in a timely manner. He/she will also ensure that the Release calendar is kept up-to-date, keeping the impact of support changes on ongoing Releases to a minimum. Candidates will be required to work some weekends in order to implement major releases.


A recognized third level IT qualification along with a demonstrated understanding of ITIL framework. Format accreditation would be preferable.

Experience and skills in the following are considered beneficial:

Release Management. Progress Roundtable. Remedy. HP Application Lifecycle Management.
ServiceNow. HP Quality Center. Team Foundation Server

Technical expertise outlined below are considered beneficial:

Previous experience of release management. Knowledge of the complete software development lifecycle/process. A background of working in a software product development company. Source Code control management experience. Metric gathering and reporting experience. Experience of facilitating meetings. Previous experience of working with work colleagues across remote locations. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint.  Sound understanding of contemporary project management methodologies. Understanding of database admin and other application deployment activities
